Simply drag from the library onto the audio track and it will replace it. As an example maybe you recorded an 'ooh' sound as part of your sentence but CrazyTalk animates your head with an ‘ee'. You can open a palette of phonemes and simply drag them onto the timeline, replacing the software's estimation with a more accurate result. Initially you may be underwhelmed by the results but this is where the true genius of the app shows up. The recording is easy, and placing the audio onto the timeline is almost foolproof with great automation. CrazyTalk ships with a number of preset assets in an easy to navigate browser (if you register with them you get more free content too) but the software comes into its own when you record your own vocals. Adding the 3D head to a clothed body and seating in an environment is a task that remains as intuitive as the rest of the processes in CT8.Īnother of CrazyTalk's main strengths lies in its ability to animate that head, especially to audio tracks. The fact that it does this from just two provided photos shows how clever the development team have been. The workflow is simple, logical and easy to grasp, belying the deeper abilities of the software to create a 3D mesh which works and actually looks like it should. What's most obvious after even a short time with CT8 is that a lot of thought has been put into making what could have been a real chore a pleasure. As you can see from the screen-shots you can mask out elements such as unwanted beard hair, and then replace with 3D assets from the library for a better animation, or simply trim away the excess leaving a smart avatar that retains all the features of the person. These settings can be adjusted later on but you get great feedback as you work. You start by importing your front and side photos and follow a very logical process of laying out markers and choosing shapes to build the avatar. Of course the results are a little dependant on the photos you provide but even with less than ideal shots you can get great results. As fun as it may be to get a 3D avatar from a photo or two, you need to do so easily and with predictable results and CT8 really shines here. Using two photos I did get the odd crash but not regularly enough to cause too many problems, and it's difficult to know if this was a fault with CT or my computer. That said, this is the one area where I encountered some technical troubles. When using a front and a side head shot the results are very good indeed, at least for tracking points and applying the photos as textures. This is a bit of a false header, as in truth, even if you only work from one reference photo you can get pretty decent results. It's clear that CrazyTalk does something special when you see how it can make this result from the photos on the left 2D or 3D These are fun and help to add an extra element of depth, along with backdrops and preset animations (great for times between dialogue). Although I won't talk much about them here, there are also libraries full of extra content to help mix up your characters, from teeth and eyes to hairstyles and accessories. This keeps things very clean and works well, as it's a very quick job of learning where everything lives. Hover over any icon and you get a tooltip telling you what it is. Many sets of tools are there but it never feels overwhelming, with easily collapsible menus and editing areas. Although CrazyTalk has a wealth of options, for anything from layering animations to applying guides to imported photos, they are sensibly and neatly organised into appropriate categories. You'll never be lost as to what you need to do, or how to access the tools you need for any given task. Whether you work on a MAC or a PC the GUI is clean, slick and enables you to work fast, rather than baffling you with menu after menu. For a number of reasons… The WorkspaceĪbsolutely the best part of CrazyTalk is the interface and methodology. If you work as a freelancer, or as part of a team that only infrequently uses fascial animation then it might be just the ticket. CrazyTalk sits in a slightly awkward area for artists, as it is certainly far more than a cheap fun tool to mess around with, yet it isn't going to replace the high end tools that some studios will demand. First off it's important to understand where a tool like this might fit in your workflow. Product: CrazyTalk 8 Pro Company: Reallusion Website: CrazyTalk has been around for a while now, but version 8, the latest upgrade, introduces tools to make this a more serious proposition for CG artists, including full 3D heads, pipeline options and more. CrazyTalk Pro version 8 is out now and showcases a number of facial animation tools, and more – Rob Redman gets animated.

Don’t move the border into the same group as the streets. Put the smaller square in front of the larger square, then subtract the opening from the outer border (with the Pathfinder window: Minus Front command. Create 2 squares to create the border frame one along the outside border guides and one along the inner border guides. I created a 1” border around 3 sides with a 2” border on the bottom. The inner guides need to overlap (or touch) the road paths. I show the rulers and set up guides for the border. The streets will have to overlap the border so they can be combined into one layer. Next, I created the border around the image. I choose the road layer and expanded them with (Effects > Path > Offset Path). I wanted the roads to be about 0.090” (2.3mm) wide. Depending on the image size, the roads may too narrow (or fragile) to laser cut. I set the paths with no fill and stroke width of. Clean up (delete) any other roads or empty layers that are not important. There may also be roads coming in from the perimeter, you’ll want to keep these also. There should be one layer that shows the majority of the roads. Depending on how clean the streets image was, there may be a lot of ‘loose’ road layers. There will be a lot of empty layers depending on how many streets you have. Again, create the vector paths by choosing: “Object>Live Trace>Make and Expand”. Hide the water layers and select the imported streets image. Make a duplicate of the water group layers, we’ll use it later for identifying where to paint the water. Select the water layer and create a vector path of the water by choosing: “Object>Live Trace>Make and Expand”. I’m using version CS5, so your commands may be different. I’m still learning Adobe Illustrator, so this may not be the most efficient approach, but it worked. They should be perfectly aligned, if not adjust their position. Launch Adobe Illustrator and import (File>Place) the ‘water.png’ and ‘streets.png’ files. Be sure to review the attached 'screenshots of process' file for additional process aids. Hide all but the streets and alignment crosshair layer and save as a. Hide all but the water and alignment crosshair layers and save as a. This will assist you in making sure the multiple layers are aligned. Add a new layer and create crosshairs in opposite corners in a clear area. With the pencil tool, clean up any thin roads or intersections. I eliminated the footpaths and any unattached roads. The street clean-up was more time consuming. Take some artistic liberties to join thin areas or widen waterways.įollow to same procedure to create a new layer for the streets. With the pencil tool, fill in with the same color all the missing areas due to bridges. Use (Select>Color Range) and pick the water, adjust the threshold if necessary and paste the selected area onto a new layer and label the layer ‘water’. Next, we need to separate out the water layer and put it on its own layer. You should now have one layer with the combined water and streets. It’s best to resize the image to the desired output size at this time. Make a duplicate layer of the map image as a precaution. Unlock all the layers, crop the final image to the desired area and merge into one layer. Be sure not to include the zoom icons or your cursor in the cleaned-up layers. Change the layer’s blending mode back to ‘normal’ and lock the layer. When the overlapping layers are solid black they are perfectly aligned (see photo). To help align them, I put the layer’s blending mode to ‘difference’. Pick the adjoining layer and align it to the first. Pick the image for the top left corner, and lock the layer. In Adobe Photoshop, I removed the unwanted areas of each screenshot. Collect all the areas to complete your map. I panned over to the next area being sure to overlap the last screenshot and capture another screenshot and paste it in Photoshop. I pasted the screenshots into Adobe Photoshop. Scroll to the zoom level you desire and take screen shots of the area of interest. You can toggle on “Fullscreen view” to make your captured area larger. You can further edit the filters, but it may be difficult to get exactly what you are looking for. I couldn’t determine how to eliminate the real small roads or walking paths. Go the map link above and load the JSON (attached to the this Instructable) and load the style. I wanted to be able to separate out the water from the roads. Part of the challenge is finding the map data with the right features. Decide on the city or area to create your map. This three-disc Blu-ray/DVD set comes with a slipcover and a full soundtrack CD containing twelve original songs written for the film. One thing that Cleopatra is great at is stuffing their releases in attractive packages with multiple goodies. A secondary 2.0 Dolby Digital soundtrack is included. The movie is careful to avoid any songs written by Lynyrd Skynyrd, so don’t expect “Free Bird.” There is a fair amount of rock music used on the soundtrack, mostly contributed by Artimus Pyle and friends. It is a bit sad that a music label continues to forget about lossless audio for their BDs, especially on a music-themed released such as Street Survivors. Audioĭespite only containing lossy 5.1 Dolby Digital audio, the mix provides appreciable separation and enough forceful bass when the plane crashes. Blown-out highlights and somewhat underwhelming definition remind everyone that Street Survivors is a low-budget digital production from inexperienced filmmakers. Street Survivors suffers from the same over-driven lighting seen in many films produced by Cleopatra. Other than those problems, video quality is satisfactory. There are no tangible benefits to the panoramic dimensions and it introduces obvious anamorphic distortion near the edges. The last major issue is the wonky aspect ratio, shown in a strange 2.6:1 aspect ratio. Otherwise what you get is tolerable HD with marginal detail and shoddy cinematography. That just isn’t acceptable for a film made in HD and in 2020. More worrisome, the movie is presented in 1080i video. Once again they encode the main feature in MPEG-2, a recurring practice for the label which hasn’t been corrected. It’s not the final word on the band but competently tells their tragic story from Artimus Pyle’s inside perspective.ĭistributed by MVD Visual for Cleopatra Entertainment, several technical issues crop up in the Blu-ray for Street Survivors. What Street Survivors gets right is the proper period vibe and a heart-felt love for Lynyrd Skynyrd. It also paints the drummer as a heroic figure that pulled bodies from the crash when some have called that into question over the years. If you believe Artimus, everyone in the band were huge party animals but himself. The story is also mildly self-serving, painting Artimus in the best possible light at all times. You’ll notice the complete lack of actual Lynyrd Skynyrd music, permission blocked by Ronnie’s estate. The band revolves around Ronnie and everyone else is along for the ride.Ī few distracting things drag the film’s value down. Ronnie Van Zant is almost a larger than life figure as played by Taylor Clift. Drowning in naked groupies, the band lives a never-ending party from town to town. The opening act dwells on Lynyrd Skynyrd’s backstage antics after a live show. Street Survivors embraces the sex, drugs and rock ‘n roll lifestyle, showcasing the band’s decadent and raunchy tours. Cohn gets across how much respect and love Pyle had for the group and his fallen friends, even after all the bitter legal battles with Judy Van Zant. The drummer introduces the dramatized portrayal of his account seen in Street Survivors.Įvents are treated fairly even-handed, if a little cheesy and circumspect. Street Survivors adapts Pyle’s memoirs of the tragedy, written by Dean Goodman. What Street Survivors gets right is the proper period vibe and a heart-felt love for Lynyrd Skynyrdĭrummer Artimus Pyle survived the crash, walking away under his own power while frantically looking for help. The crash killed several members of the group and both pilots, leaving few survivors. On October 20 th 1977, their rickety plane ran out of fuel mid-air and crashed in Louisiana. Their signature three-guitar attack and charismatic frontman Ronnie Van Zant produced an electric live show that led to constant touring for the group. Known for iconic hits like the legendary “Free Bird” and “Sweet Home Alabama,” the Southern group hit the heights of rock fame during the Seventies. Consider it a fond remembrance by Artimus Pyle of the friends he lost that day. Narrowly focusing on the tragic accident and its immediate aftermath, the movie is not a project looking to place blame on anybody. Unauthorized because Pyle and Ronnie Van Zant’s widow have fought for years through the courts over several issues, Street Survivors is a mostly entertaining curiosity for fans of the Southern rock legends. Killing the band’s popular lead singer and frontman Ronnie Van Zant, the major 1977 accident gets retold through the eyes of Lynyrd Skynyrd drummer Artimus Pyle, who survived the crash. Filmmaker Jared Cohn ( Devil’s Domain) recreates the terrible plane tragedy that hit Lynyrd Skynyrd at the height of their popularity in Street Survivors: The True Story of the Lynyrd Skynyrd Plane Crash. Relations between the United States and Mexico were strained when Mexico refused to extradite Caro Quintero to the United States and he was found to be living in luxury in a Mexican prison.Īmid Mexican-American tension over the handling of the case, The Washington Post reported that Mexican authorities were concerned about the possible impact of the TV miniseries, fearing it might portray Mexico unfavorably, revive the considerable American anger over the killing and overshadow Mexican efforts to cut down drug trafficking. Rafael Caro Quintero and Ernesto Rafael Fonseca Carrillo were sentenced early last month. Since that press conference, two Mexican drug lords were given 40-year prison terms for their roles in the murder of Camarena. "The case hasn't been solved at all," she said, "neither in the legal process, nor does anybody know exactly what happened to Camarena, who ordered his death, how high up did it go, when the coverup occurred - and there was a large one - and who exactly was responsible for that?" Marcello, who has been with the DEA since 1973.Īnd the series was based on "Desperados," written by Shannon, a correspondent in Time magazine's Washington bureau.Īt a Los Angeles press conference to discuss the miniseries, Shannon said that the Camarena abduction and killing has not been completely solved. Executive producer Michael Mann seems to have come this way before as executive producer of "Miami Vice." The production was assisted by technical advice from John M. The series production staff is well credentialed. Treat Williams plays Ray Carson, who heads the investigation into Camarena's killing.Įlizabeth Pena, who will be featured as the secretary in the upcoming series "Shannon's Deal," portrays Camarena's widow, Mika, left with three sons, who pleads with his fellow agents not to let her husband become just another number, an anonymous casualty in the war on drugs. Nelson, television's "Coach," plays Camarena's boss and best friend, Harley Steinmetz, who puts his own career on the line to expose the corruption that surrounded Camarena's death. The series introduces a cast of knights without armor: Steven Bauer has the lead in the early going as Camarena. It's the forward line in the war on drugs at a key source and transfer point. The series opens with a narrator describing the role of DEA agents: They operate, in this case, in a foreign country, with no power of arrest, no assurances of support. It also comes at a time when the United States' relations with drug-producing nations south of our border have been tense - tensions that led to invasion of Panama last month. The series airs at a time when American sensitivity to the illicit drug trade has probably never been higher. The series itself became a bit of a pawn in the diplomatic cat-and-mouse game between the United States and Mexico, but more on that later. Now the story takes the form of a TV miniseries, "Drug Wars: The Camarena Story," an NBC offering airing six hours over three nights (Sunday to Tuesday) at 9. Local Mexican police were said to be part of the abduction, and there appeared to be an official coverup. The case has been a point of contention between Americans and Mexicans since 1985, when Camarena was slain. Enrique "Kiki" Camarena was a Drug Enforcement Administration agent, abducted off the street in Guadalajara while serving in Mexico, tortured and killed. Lawmen, and the War America Can't Win."īut first of all, it was a tragedy. It has been a cover story in Time magazine, and it has been a book by Elaine Shannon, titled "Desperados," with a telling subtitle: "Latin Drug Lords, U.S. The story of Kiki Camarena has taken many forms. However, due to the lack of repair, the buildings and other structures in the town are becoming increasingly dilapidated. There are five well-known tour agencies that take visitors to Pripyat. These passes can be obtained through the touring companies located in Kyiv, about 110 kilometers from the blast site. To tour Pripyat, Chernobyl, and other surrounding villages, one must first obtain a day pass from the government. As it turns out, from the animal’s point of view, a nuclear disaster is preferable to normal human habitation. Today the animal populations more closely resemble that of a national park than a radioactive containment zone. After the elk, moose, deer, and boar returned so did their predators the wolves and lynx. After people left the deer and boar populations returned almost immediately, and despite having radiation levels thousands of times higher than normal, they were not showing obvious signs of mutations (though the plants got pretty weird including some actual glowing) and the animal populations grew enormously. In 1986 wildlife was not doing well in Chernobyl, outcompeted for resources by pine and dairy farms. Ironically, the absence of humans has been excellent for wildlife. in the same building triangle radiation danger signs are made. There is still electricity in some part of Pripyat, and to this day there is a functional vehicle base in the city, water supply for the plant, and in the former laundry… there are still laundry after 30 years, where the uniforms of plants workers are washed. The famous pool was in service until 1996. Military, police, scientists, and other public authorities use the city as a base to clean radiation in the newly created zone of alienation. Communist propaganda still hangs on walls, personal belongings litter the streets and abandoned buildings. Over three decades later, this ghost town is a freeze-frame of the Soviet Union in 1986. It was possible only because this scenario was part of the building plans of the plant. Because of the people who lived there, it was one of the most beautiful and luxurious cities in the Soviet Union. Only about three kilometers from the explosion, the entire city was forced to completely evacuate on April 27 in just three hours. It had 15 primary schools, a large hospital complex, 25 stores, 10 gyms, along with parks, cinemas, factories, a pool, an amusement park, and other marks of a thriving community. 4 reactor was Pripyat, a city of 49,000 founded in 1970 to house workers from Chernobyl.
